  1. Adam Smith (1723 – 1790), the founder of the modern study of economics. His “Enquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations“, (1776) put forward his beliefs that governments should interfere as little as possible in economic affairs.

  2. The tailor does not attempt to make his own shoes, but buys them from the shoemaker. The shoemaker does not attempt to make his own clothes, but employs a tailor. What is common sense in the conduct of every private family can scarce be folly in that of a great kingdom.(Adam Smith, The Wealth of Nations, 1776)
