  2. The Foundation • God created universe 15-17 billion years ago using the “Big Bang”. • The earth took form 4.5 billions of years ago. • The Geological Timetable is accurate. • God created things at different time periods.

The Foundation • Death & bloodshed have been from the beginning of creation, not the result of sin. • Man was created in the image of God after the vast majority of earth’s history of life & death had taken place. • Adam’s sin resulted in spiritual death but it had nothing to do with physical death. • The flood was local, not global, though much human life was lost.

  4. Key Tactic • “The age of the earth is a trivial doctrinal point” • The Issue Of Time Is Not Trivial! • Can God communicate accurately? • Can we understand His written revelation? • If not, then how can we trust what the Bible says about salvation?

  5. Dual Revelation • Nature & Scripture • Nature was not meant to conflict with Scripture, but to impress us with God’s power to create (Rom 1:20) • David made the proper distinction between Nature & Scripture (Psalm 19).

  6. “Yom” (age or day)? • Does “Yom” mean Age? • “Day” is precisely defined (Gen 1:5, 14; Exo 20:8-11). • Used with a number. • Used in contrast to “years”. • Combined with “evening & morning”. • Used literally in the Decalogue.

  7. “Yom” (age or day)? • Days in wrong order to be ages. • Plant life, 3rd day – land creatures & all creeping things, 6th day. • No insects for pollination.

  8. “Yom” (age or day)? • Days in wrong order to be ages. • Plant life, 3rd day – sun, 4th day. • No plant life without the sun’s rays (photosynthesis). • Birds, 5th day – land creatures & all creeping things, 6th day. • Geological time table shows reptiles living before birds.

  9. Creation was “very good”! • Death & suffering did not exist before man created. • Death & suffering were the result of sin & the curse (Gen 3:17-19). • Animals were killed for food after the flood (Gen 1:29-31; 9:2-3)

  10. Gaps is genealogies? • There are 20 generations from Abraham to Adam (Gen 5, 11) • Jude 14 confirms 7 generations from Adam to Enoch. • The father’s age is given when his descendant was born.

  11. Jesus responds… • The beginning of creation was marked by the making of man (Mark 10:6) • The foundation of the world was marked by the death of Abel (Luke 11:49-51).

  12. We can trust God’s word as Jesus did! “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible” (Heb 11:3)
