  2. What is your reading rate? • Your individual reading rate can be calculated if you know your total reading time and the total number of words read during that time.

  3. How fast should you read? • The average adult reading speed on relatively easy material is approximately 250 wpm at 70% comprehension.

  4. How do faster readers maintain a better reading rate? • Faster readers concentrate, are curious to learn, stay mentally alert, and are motivated to achieve.

  5. What are some techniques for faster reading? • Before reading, make predictions, anticipate organization, and activate schemata. • Using the pen as a pacer and setting a time. • Stop regressing (your eyes were engaged but your mind was wondering) • Expand fixations(when you eyes stop in order to read) • Stop vocalizing (move lips while reading)

  6. Skimming • Skimming is a technique of selective reading for main idea, involve processing material at 900 wpm and ask what is this about? • Read title and subheadings, italics and bold print to get an idea. • Look for certain organizational patterns and understanding functions. • Try to grasp the main ideas and supporting details. • Skip words, sentence • Check the summary and check if you understanding.

  7. Scanning • The process of searching for a single bit of information. More locating skill than a reading skill. • Search for Telephone number • Point out specific details • Move quickly and aggressive
