  1. Level 2 Trigger Jet Algorithm Tomek Kott and Jared Sturdy Advisor: Denis Damazio Group: ATLAS

  2. Introduction • Level 2 has 10 ms to decide what events are interesting based on the information that it gets from Level 1 • In previous experiments, jets were discarded as noise • Now jets are interesting physics; now they can provide a signature for the Higgs.

  3. Types of Jet Algorithms • Simple cone: First choose a seed, Next add the energies around the seed, See if it is aligned, Repeat until no suitable seeds are found. • Kt method: Compares energies and momenta (transverse) of nearby clusters.

  4. Progress and Continuing Work • To date we have a partially working, simple cone algorithm • We would like to improve its performance so that we have a working model within a week. • Then possibly attempt to create a more efficient algorithm.

  5. Acknowledgements and Thanks • Run II Jet Algorithm paper form Fermilab. • Steve Armstrong • CERN, University of Michigan, NSF

  6. Life in Switzerland (Jared) • My experiences in Switzerland mostly consist of hiking/wandering around the mountains and jumping of the 10m block at the beach.

  7. Life in Switzerland (Tomek) • Geneva • Visited the Lac Leman region: Rolle, Allaman, Morges, Vufflens-le-Chateau, Lausanne, Cully, St. Saphorin, Chateau de Chillon, and Aigle. • Hiking near St. Maurice last weekend. • Pics updated weekly: www.students.bucknell.edu/tkott/
