  4. Example • (Original) The students respect the teacher more than the graduate student. • Depending the author’s intended meaning, the revised sentence should read as • (Revised) The students respect the teacher more than they respect the graduate student. • (Revised) The students prefer the teacher more than the graduate student does.

  5. Example • (Original) The new rules are as stringent, if not more stringent than, the old ones. • (Revised) The new rules are as stringent as, if not more stringent than, the old ones.
