  1. WORKSHOP ON STREET CHILDREN IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPECRISIS CENTERS FOR YOUTH AND CHILDREN IN SLOVENIABrussels,May 6, 2008 Davor DOMINKUŠ

  2. CRISIS CENTERS FOR YOUTH AND CHILDREN An analysis performed at social work centres has revealed that the number of children and adolescents deprived of a normal family life is on the increase, which is reflected in school problems, runaways, drug and alcohol abuse, eating disorders, lack o communication with the parents, psychosomatic disorders, violence towards peers or self and delinquent behaviour.

  3. CRISIS CENTERS FOR YOUTH AND CHILDREN In Slovenia, crisis centres for youth have been operating since 1995, when the first such centre (CCY) was established in Ljubljana. Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Affairs took over the entire financing of the relevant activities, including the payment of regularly employed expert staff.

  4. CRISIS CENTERS FOR YOUTH AND CHILDREN CCYs provide their services 24 hours a day. CCY is intended for all children and adolescents from 6 to 18 years of age, who find themselves in acute distress and therefore need to be urgently removed from the environment in which they live.

  5. CRISIS CENTERS FOR YOUTH AND CHILDREN Apart from offering accommodation, CCY provide daily care, information interviews, counselling interviews and learning assistance, organize thematic workshops and volunteer work, take care of public information and participate in the supervision team.

  6. CRISIS CENTERS FOR YOUTH AND CHILDREN Tasks of a crisis centre: providing personal help to the youth in distress, who seek shelter there; admission and care of children and adolescents until their problems are resolved, however, not for longer than three weeks (possibility of extension); offering shelter to the youth who urgently need to be temporarily removed from their home environment;

  7. CRISIS CENTERS FOR YOUTH AND CHILDREN Tasks of a crisis centre: preparing measures for the adolescent’s reintegration with his/her family. cooperation with the competent social work centres, state authorities and organisations responsible for dealing with minors.

  8. CRISIS CENTERS FOR YOUTH AND CHILDREN Since 1 September 2007, a new crisis centre intended for pre-school children (aged 0 – 6 years) for whom a social work centre believes that their removal from the endangering environment (family, school, etc.) is urgently required to protect the children and secure their best interests. The new center represents a systemic solution with a short-term placement (up to three weeks) for the youngest, while the social centre actively seeks an optimal foster family for the child’s permanent placement.
