  2. What do I want to write about? • Pick 3 main details about the character that can intertwine together and expand on. • Job • Background • Description • Personality • Relation to other characters • Etc. • Put them in order that’s appropriate

The Girl From Weeds • Description: • Woman from Weeds • No Name • Wore a Red Dress • Quote: George “…he seen this girl in a red dress” (p.45). • This fits with the character because she was wearing a red dress. • Relation: • Lennie: Wanted to feel her dress, but held on because he was scared • Quote: George “She jerks back and you hold on like It was a mouse” (p. 12). • This shows why Lennie and George are on the run

Background: • Lennie wanted to feel her dress, but got scared when he wouldn’t let go. • Quote: George “Just wanted to feel that girl’s dress—just wanted to pet it like it was a mouse” (p.12). • This shows why Lennie wanted to touch her dress and why the woman was introduced in the first place. • The girl tells the law that she was raped. • Quote: George “tells the law she been raped” (p.46). • This shows her background and possibly what kinds of person she is. She lied to the law. • Quote: George “They guys in Weed start a party out to lynch Lennie” (p.46). • This shows what happened because of her lie.

Compare/Contrast Quotes: • Think about things they have in common • Think about things that are drastically different • Think about things that came be compared or contrasted in their personalities • The Girl From Weeds & Lennie • Their Personalities: Lennie is sweet/ The girl is a liar, which got nice people in trouble. • Quote: George “…we got to hide in an a irrigation ditch all day with guys lookin’ for us, and we got to sneak out in the dark and get outta the country” (p.12).

Things to Omit From You Paragraphs • You CANNOT use the girl from Weeds as one of your characters • The Words: You, I , We, Us (No First Person) • I think, We think, you think • I’m going to tell/talk about • I’m going to tell you • You would think • Run-On & Fragment Sentences • Punctuation & Spelling Errors

Your Tasks Today: • Finish Your Silent Reading • Find 6 Quotes (2 about each character=4 total & 2 to compare & contrast) • Approve them with Mrs. Ekman or Ms. Bruce • Finish 2 Journals (DUE TODAY) • From Friday and Yesterday • Start Your Outline • We will start writing your paragraphs tomorrow.
