  2. Instructor’s Introduction Marcelo Godoy Simoes received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of Tennessee, USA, in 1995 and his D. Sc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 1998. He was a faculty member at The University of Sao Paulo, Brazil where he was involved in organizing undergraduate courses in the Department of Mechatronics, teaching graduate courses in Power Electronics and Drives and also conducting research in applications of intelligent systems. He recently joined Colorado School of Mines; his research interests are power electronics and drives, renewable energy applications and intelligent autonomous systems. He is currently holding the IEEE/PELS Education Committee Chair. His e-mail for contact is : m.g.simoes@ieee.org
