  5. Who cares for it? • Researchers/Research scholars • Students • Teachers

  6. Why a University should Submit/ participate? • In the national interest • Improve the research quality • Create national pool of ETD • Sharing the resource Do all the Universities care?

  7. Why a Library should Participate? • They get fund to digitize their Theses & Dissertations • Improved accessibility to Theses & Dissertations • Reduced user presence in library premises • Incase of national participation (repository)? • Incase of individual participation (repository)

  8. There is a fear to justify the importance of libraries and librarians in Internet era • No. of users using library is an indicator

  9. State of Confusion • Is it right that library should initiate, own, execute and maintain the project? OR • Controller of Examinations should initiate, own and execute the project? A DISCUSSION IS ON

  10. What a Research Scholar gets? • Improved visibility to his/her work. • How many care after the award of Ph.D. degree? • How can he/she be encouraged to submit their work? • He/she is content creator and major stake holder in the chain

  11. A Research Scholar Cares for Expeditious examination and review to his/her work • Normally, it takes 8 – 12 months in award of a Ph.D. after the submission

  13. Who should Address the Problem? • The Library / Librarian • Is it really their task? • University / Controller of Examination • Are they ready/equipped enough to take the task? • A National agency • Confidentiality and security? • Whether universities are ready?

Character Representation Multilingual text needs to be represented so that it can be indexed • OCR is to be developed for Indic scripts – for formatted documents • Fonts to be developed for different scripts • Suitable converters for UNICODE are to be developed Banaras Hindu University has Theses in Indic and Foreign scripts
