  2. Introduction Negative SEO attacks can cause a lot of damage.  It is more difficult to do damage control than to prevent such attacks. As I have said in my previous post, regular site audits can help prevent or catch negative SEO attacks. This article will focus on the basics of a site audit.

  3. What is site auditing? Site auditing is conducted to inspect records, assets, or security procedures. It is a full analysis of the factors which can affect the site’s visibility in search engines. It is the first step in developing your SEO strategy. According to Search Engine Watch, it is a standard procedure for any website. Proper site audit gives you a better insight of your website, individual pages, and traffic.

  4. When should you perform a site audit? A regular site audit is a must for improving site performance and ranking. Gotsch SEO recommends doing it at the beginning of a new project and a new quarter.

  5. What is a site audit report? A site audit report is more than a compilation of tools and procedures reports. It should include an analysis and assessment that compares and contrasts the data and information acquired through the tools and procedures. According to Search Engine Watch, you should always include the following information in your site audit report:

  6. Summary analysis with points of action -to quickly understand where your site stands, the issues, and the points of action Red flag warnings -to contain references to any potential issues Data and tool metric -to show the exact status of your website Actionable recommendations -to help implement the findings of the audit

  7. How much does a site audit cost? Doing a site audit takes time, effort, and expertise. You can learn how to do it if you have the time. You can also hire an auditor if you don’t know how to do it yourself.   There are others who do it for free. You can also do it yourself if you have the time and knowledge. A paid site audit cost usually depends on whether it’s for an information-based or an eCommerce-based site. It will also depend on the size and complexity of the situation. A site auditor may apply additional fees based on existing Google penalties. They can also add to the core price additional costs if there are other client-owned sites or subdomains that are integral to the main site.

  8. Conclusion The key to a successful SEO audit is making sure you know what you are doing. As an SEO practitioner, you should have knowledge of site auditing. Next time, I will provide an SEO audit checklist to get you started.
