  1. How to Recognize a Lab Grown Diamond? To conclude, we must say that although a lab diamond cannot be differentiated by the naked eye, there is no need for customers to worry about getting duped. And although these man-made gemstones are taking a while to overpower their natural friends, it won’t be long beyond it happens. This is because you usually buy diamonds for the way it looks and not for the emotion of eternity that comes with it. And if something that looks just as good and costs 30% less, who wouldn’t pick it. If you want to be absolutely sure, sending your gemstone to gem labs for testing is a great way. Labs like GIA (Gemological Institute of America) and IGI (International Gemological Institute) have innovatively named, specialized machinery called the likes of DiamondSure, DiamondView and more. What happens in these labs? They put your tone through a machine that bombards it with specific radiation and then analyze the stone’s output. Certain signs, like specific wavelengths show that these are lab grown. The way to do this is to ship you stones to these labs and get them back with a label that specifies their type. Let’s look at how we can truly tell which of the diamonds are real and which of them are lab diamonds. Type IIa diamonds are a good indication of them being lab grown. This type is a gemological variant of the diamond that tells you how pure the carbon that makes up the diamond is. Turns out, only 2% of the natural diamonds are of this type, so if you ever see a type IIa diamond, there’s a very high chance of it being lab grown. If a person tells you that they can just look at a diamond and tell if it's one of the natural or lab diamonds, that person is lying. It is impossible for anyone in the whole wide world to tell apart the two kinds of diamonds. This is because the man-made doppelgangers are identical to their natural counterparts. While this is great news for the lab grown diamonds growers and those customers who have accepted these, it could pose a great threat to the jewellery industry when looked at from a bird’s eye view. You may ask why? The answer to this is the same reason that has led to their acceptance. Almost no difference between them and mined diamonds. This is because although their differences are not visible to naked eye, their monetary values are poles apart. And if a diamond manufacturer in Mumbai or any other city sells a CVD diamond as a real diamond the buyer will be duped.

  2. This means you should be worried about lab grown diamonds growers not disclosing their diamonds’ origin honestly and selling to you man-made diamonds in the name of real ones? No, you shouldn’t. Most of the lab diamonds that are produced are sold as lab diamonds and disclosed responsibly by the producers. A number of diamond manufacturer in Mumbai, have also bought machines that can clearly demarcate between the two diamonds so no discrepancy arises later. The entire jewelry industry goes leaps and bounds to ensure that when they procure or sell a diamond as a natural one, it truly is that and not man-made.
