  1. Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) Mission System Requirements Review (SRR) Mini-RF Requirements Overview Last Update 7/19/05

  2. Mini-RF Introduction • Mini-RF is a NASA facility technology demonstration designed to demonstrate new radar technology for future use in planetary resource mapping. • The Mini-RF technology demonstration is a synthetic aperture radar which consists of a fixed planar antenna and an electronics box, both mounted on external spacecraft surfaces, a cable harness between the electronics box and the antenna, and electrical interfaces to the spacecraft. • The Mini-RF is sponsored by the Naval Air Warface Center/Weapons Division (NAWC/WD), China Lake, California.

  4. Mini-RF Requirements Traceability (1) • Mini-RF Level 2 requirements are defined, and are traceable to a single Level 1 requirement defined in the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) Requirements Document, #ESMD-RLEP-0010. • RLEP-LRO-P160 Technology Demonstration - The LRO shall accommodate the NAWC provided Mini-RF device in order to provide the opportunity for demonstration of this technology in the lunar orbital environment provided it does not increase the project cost, delay the launch date, adversely impact the achievement of full mission success, or increase the overall risk posture of the primary mission. • Mini-RF requirements have been captured in a Requirements and Goals Document and are in the process of submission to CM for release

  5. Mini-RF Requirements Traceability (2) • Key interface requirements are defined and captured in ICD’s for Mechanical, Thermal, Electrical and Data interfaces • Key operational requirements are defined and captured in the LRO Concept of Operations Document • Key performance assurance requirements are defined and captured in the RLEP Mission Assurance Requirements (MAR) document, tailored for Mini-RF to include only those areas that may adversely impact the achievement of full mission success or increase the overall risk posture of the primary mission • Key verification requirements are defined and captured in LRO Project Level verification documents, including but not limited to: • LRO Electrical Systems Specification • LRO Mechanical Environments and Verification Requirements • LRO Thermal Modeling Requirements Document
