  2. Common Core iPad Rollout Goal: • Support our transition to Common Core State Standards for College-Readiness

  3. Purpose Alliance schools have always been on the cutting edge of instruction and schooling for students in Los Angeles. Our transition to Common Core State Standards, supported by the implementation of Pearson Common Core content that is loaded on student iPads, will continue to support innovative teaching to prepare our students for college success and beyond.

  5. How will your child be tested? New exams will replace current California Standardized Tests that students take at the end of each school year. The new exams will assess the student level of understanding in each subject and each grade level with questions that are aligned to the new Common Core State Standards. IMPORTANT - the adaptive exam will increase in difficulty as students answer more questions correctly. This will provide a more accurate assessment of our student proficiency.   7. How will we prepare your child for the exam with an iPad? Pearson English and Math Courses has been loaded on student iPads to support child’s learning and use of technology.

  8. What does this mean? • Middle School - All students will be assigned an iPad to prepare for this transition. • High School - Students in grades 9-11 will be assigned an iPad to prepare for this transition.

  9. We will discuss a few items before iPads can be distributed. • Care and protection of the device • How to manage photographs, passcode, screen savers, etc. • How to manage files and applications • Review the Student Pledge • Student Discipline • Acceptable Usage • Willful Damage or Negligence

  10. Parent Responsibilities Review the Acceptable use policy with your child. You will be responsible for any willful damage done to an iPad (school property) by your child. Guide your child on internet safety.

  11. Your child’s responsibility • Keep iPad in backpack during passing periods, nutrition, and lunch • Treat it as if it were your own • Follow you schools check-in and check-out policy • Keep case on iPads at all times. • Never leave the iPad unattended!

  12. iPad Policies: Profiles & Controls Do not remove profiles from your iPad Profiles are used to enhance the learning experience Profiles allow IT staff to manage iPads remotely (Ex. Pushing out district approved Apps)

  13. iPad Policies: Student Pledge Student Pledge applies in the digital world • Do not deface the iPad, charging equipment or the case • iPad is subject to inspection at any time • Students will adhere to Cyber-bullying, Internet Safety, and appropriate online behavior policies as outlined in Common Sense Media digital citizenship curriculum

  14. iPad Policies: Apps Pre-loaded apps and content are owned by the school district Students are NOT permitted to load their own apps See Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) for explicit policies regarding downloading applications (i.e. non-educational Apps not allowed)

  15. iPad Take Home Policies (Parents) Students are not allowed to take iPads home.

  16. iPad: Theft Protection Keep your iPad under your control atall times Don’t leave iPad unattended or in the care of a friend. You will be liable for negligence that results in the loss of the device.

  17. Loss & Theft The school will be responsible for loss and theft because the devices will not be going home. The school is responsible for enforcing the check-in/out procedures and the storage of the devices on campus.

  18. iPad Policy: AppleCare Plus • In event of an incident involving non-warranty repairs, the district has purchased AppleCare Plus
