  1. CCSSE 2014: What are our Students telling us about Student-Faculty Interaction?

Why are we concerned with Student-Faculty Interaction? • Higher levels of student and faculty engagement translate to higher student success rates. • The benchmark for student-faculty interaction at HawCC has fairly consistently ranked at the lowest level of engagement for our college. • The student-faculty interaction benchmark measure has dropped for each the last 3 reporting years. • For 2 of 3 reporting years we have tied all the other UHCC’s for last place on the student-faculty interaction measure. • If we could better understand the root causes for these lower levels of engagement, we can help our students become more successful. • What are our students telling us?

Student-Faculty Interaction The Student-Faculty Interaction benchmark is comprised of 6 simple questions… During the current school year, how often have you: • Used e-mail to communicate with an instructor (#4k) • Discussed grades or assignments with an instructor (#4l) • Talked about career plans with an instructor or advisor (#4m) • Discussed ideas from your readings or classes with instructors outside of class (#4n) • Received prompt feedback (written or oral) from instructors on your performance (#4o) • Worked with instructors on activities other than coursework (#4q) Let’s look at each question and see how our students have responded
