The rocket and how it works… • The children begin each day on the middle of the chart starting on green. • The children move up the rocket for good behaviour/work/manners. • The children move down the rocket when they do not follow our golden rules. • For each colourfrom green and above, children can earn points for their house. • If a child reaches red in any given day, parents and a member of SLT will be informed.

  8. Writing At the end of year 2 children are expected to be working at a level 2b.

Here is an example of a 2b piece of writing: Correct spelling of simple high-frequency words Some variety in sentence openings Letters are correctly formed and orientated Story is sequenced chronologically Subject matter is relevant The basic ingredients of a story are present and used appropriately Word choices describe actions and simple feelings

  13. Questioning Engaging students through effective questioning Our focus this year at VHPS with regard to improving student learning is questioning techniques. Blooms taxonomy of questions is a widely-accepted framework that many teachers use to guide their students through the learning process. Though not necessarily sequential, the hierarchy of Bloom’s taxonomy is often depicted as a pyramid, with simple knowledge-based recall questions at the base. Questions higher on the pyramid are more complex and demand higher cognitive skills from the children.
