  1. Carbon Footprint Reduction By Adryana Collins

  2. CO2 • Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is a colorless, odorless gas. It is widely used by the food, oil and chemical industry due to in being inexpensive and nonflammable. It is also used to carbonate drinks and extinguish fire due to it not being flammable. • Carbon Dioxide effects the environment greatly. It is sufficient to kill insects and small animals. It warms rapidly when sunlit and the gas is dispersed by convection during the day. CO2 is the greatest factor in the rise in global temperatures, known as global warming.

  3. Reduce Your Carbon Footprint!!! • The amount of CO2 admitted into the atmosphere has increased over time. It is admitted into the atmosphere every day. • Carbon footprint reduction is important because CO2 is fatal! http://www.nature.org/initiatives/climatechange/calculator/

  4. Reducing Your Footprint • Turn it off when your not using it • Turn down the central heating slightly (try just 1 to 2 degrees C) • Turn down the water heating setting (just 2 degrees will make a significant saving) • Heat your house when you are home • Do a full load of laundry in the washer • Use only what you need • Do all shopping at once (not everyday but once a week) • Dry clothing on a clothes line • Sign up to a green energy supplier, who will supply electricity from renewable sources (e.g. wind and hydroelectric power) - this will reduce your carbon footprint contribution from electricity to zero

  5. Traveling Changes • Travel less, only when necessary • Carpool • Use public transportation (i.e.. Buses and trains) • Walk/Bike instead of driving short distances • Try and work from home • Try and use biodiesel fuel for your car

  6. Purchases That Can Help Reduce Your Carbon Footprint • Drink tap water instead of bottled • Purchase fruits and vegetables from local farms • Buy foods in season • Eat less meat • Purchase products that were made locally • Buy organic produce • Don't buy over packaged products • Recycle!!!!

  7. Simple Investments that Make a Big Change • Use energy saving light bulbs • Install thermostatic valves on your radiators • Insulate your hot water tank, your loft and your walls • Installing cavity wall installation • By installing 180mm thick loft insulation • Recycle your grey water • Replace your old fridge / freezer (if it is over 15 years old), with a new one with energy efficiency rating of "A" • Replace your old boiler with a new energy efficient condensing boiler
