The Role of Women in 1916 • 60 members of the 90 women who fought in 1916 were members of CumannnamBan. • Winifred Carney arrived at the GPO with her typewriter and revolver. • Women such as Countess Markiwicz shot policemen and fired on British troops • Margaret Skinnider a Scottish suffragette joined the rebels in to support Irish women achieving equality with men. • In the GPO Pearse chose Elizabeth Farrell to present the surrender to the British troops.
