  2. Mrs. Stephens’ 8th grade ELA and Pre-AP ELA! • We will study Reading, Vocabulary Writing and Grammar. • I’m looking forward to a wonderful year with all my students! I’d love to discuss your child’s grades and/or behavior, but we will not be able to do that today  Please feel free to sign up for a conference appointment! Thank you so much for coming!

  3. Everyday Supplies for Class • Pencil or pen • College Ruled paper • 5 Subject Notebook • Crayons, Colored Pencils, Markers • Glue and scissors

  4. How will my child be graded? Calificaciones • 60% Tests, Essays & Projects • 40% Daily Work, quizzes, homework, AR grade

  5. Accelerated Reader • Reading is Required! (and it’s good for you) • AR will be 2 grades of the 40% category every six weeks (AR cuentapor dos calificaciones de la categoria 40% cadaseissemanas) • Reading time in ELA • 30 minutes daily @ home • Library Hours (7:30-7:45/3:56-4:15) • AR Goals (meta): 1st SW (18 pts) 2nd – 6th SW (20 pts)

  6. Accelerated Reader Continued AR Login for Parents Parents: If you would like to keep up to date with your child’s AR points, simply follow the steps below. Log on to “Sharyland ISDHomepage” Click on “Academia” Click on “AR Home Connect” Student should log in using their credentials AT the very top of opening page, parents select:“e-mail Setup” Parents e-mail(s) will appear at the bottom of the window.

  11. Do you have a Skyward Family Access Password? This password allows you to monitor your child’s grades from your home computer. If you do not have a Skyward Family Access Password, please see Sally Hartman, our school librarian.

  12. 8th Grade STAAR Testing • TEA requires all 8th grade students pass the Reading STAAR test in order to be promoted to 9th grade. • It is imperative that you encourage reading at home daily for 30 minutes. • STAAR testing days: March 30, 31 & April 21, 22 100% Attendance is the district expectation. Please be sure your child attends school on these important testing days.
