So far we have found that… • Tablets can help to dramatically change teaching & engage students…they boost attainment & reach out to students’ home setting • Very helpful for SEN children • There is a thirst to adopt, but it is a complicated process, more than just the technology • But…Everyone is calling for evidence of impact on attainment and worried about the costs

  5. Beyond Technology And importantly that this isn’t just about giving tablets, its about: • Wifi Connectivity • Financing and cost reduction • The way kids learn • Reducing burden on teachers • Accessibility to content • Security, Safety and Support

International Context • India aims to deliver $30 tablets to students • Tablets are expected to outnumber computers in US schools in 5 years. • Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has given tablets to more than 3k pupils as a trial. • Singapore, France and Victoria, Australia are currently running government backed trials in schools. • South Korea and Turkey are providing all pupils with tablets by 2015; Kazakhstan by 2020. • India and Zimbabwe are currently working to provide solar powered tablets to pupils in remote areas.
