What is EWMA? • An umbrella organisation linking national wound management organisations across Europe • A multidisciplinary group bringing together individuals and organisations interested in wound management • An educational ressource providing publications, information, education modules, endorsement of courses as well as holding conferences on all aspects of wound management

EWMA wants to make a difference… • Leading and supporting wound care development • Cooperating with national & international organisations to develop wound management • Providing expert knowledge • Influencing policy making • Providing and developing wound care education • Initiating and supporting data collection & studies • Supporting evidence based clinical research in wound care • Implementing knowledge on treatment • Cooperating with industry on common goals

EWMA Patient Outcome Group Established October 2008 The group works on a set of revised guidelines for clinical data collection for problem wounds and to create consensus on these guidelines within the wound care area. The primary objective is to support an increased data collection and amount of evidence in wound care. The EWMA Patient Outcome Group consists of clinicians as well as representatives from industry.

Cooperation with international organisations WHO: EWMA supports the WHO (World Health Organisation) activities on wound treatment in less-developed countries. • A meeting with WHO to discuss collaboration was held in December 2008 International Associations: A collaboration with the Association of Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC, US), has been initiated. • First meeting was held in Dallas in April 2009

EWMA Cooperating Organisations Currently 46 organisations in 35 countries EWMA continues to support the development of national wound management associations and offers regular support of activities Latest EWMA participated in meeting arranged by the SlovakWound Management Association (SSOOR) with the Slovak Ministry of Health, 30 March 2009. New members 2009 • V&VN Decubitus and Wound Consultants, Netherlands • In addition, interim organisations have been established in Russia, Ukraine & Belarus with the support from EWMA.

Collaboration with the Eucomed AWCS group Collaboration with the Eucomed Advanced Wound Care Sector Group (AWCS) Current activities: • Screening of European literature on the cost of wound care. • Article published in Journal of Wound Care, April 2009. • Initiative to conduct national wound cost surveys in 3 European countries. • Wound care event in Brussels, creating awareness and targeting members of the European Parliament

EWMA Education • Curriculum of education modules • Endorsement • Endorsement of wound education courses for industry partners and teaching institutions. • Teach the Teacher • Improve the capacity and training materials available in Europe for nurse teachers • EWMA University Conference Model (UCM) UCM group at the EWMA 2008 Conference in Lisbon, Portugal

Conference theme HELP in Helsinki Healing Educating Learning and Preventing in wound care This year’s conference will deal with many of the central issues in wound management – how do we prevent and heal the wound and how do we secure the best wound management through a continuous development of staff education and organisation?

Symposium in Russian - Thursday 21 May 2009 • Objective: Supporting the establishment of EWMA Cooperating Organisations in Russian speaking countries • Target group: The symposium is for Russian speaking physicians, specialist nurses and other persons interested in wound care. Countries represented & invited: Belarus, Ukraine and Russia The symposium will be in both Russian & English (simultaneous translation) Symposium sponsors:

EWMA UCM at the 2009 Conference • Allows universities and teaching institutions to deliver main taught component of a wound course during the EWMA Conference; • At the EWMA 2009 Helsinki conference, the EWMA UCM will be held for the third time. • Participants from Belgium, Finland, Ireland and the U.K. • Special lecture for UCM Students
