  2. Main Characters The main characters of this story are Joey and Jesus (Hey-SOOS). Jesus is a foreign exchange student who comes from Nicaragua to live with Joey and his family for a whole year.

  3. Setting The story took place at the local baseball field in Bordentown, New Jersey and in Joey’s home.

  4. Problem Joey is jealous of Jesus because he thinks Jesus is getting more attention than he is. Not only in baseball, but in everything else. Joey’s jealousy makes it difficult for the two to get along.

  5. Solution Joey has a talk with Larry Levine, the funniest kid on the baseball team (sometimes considered a clown). Joey then realizes that he can’t always be the star in everything that he does.

  6. Plot Jesus arrived in Bordentown in the middle of the baseball season. His baseball talent earned him a starting spot on Joey’s team. The spot he earned was originally Joey’s. Jesus also took the lead off spot in the batting order, which was also Joey’s. Joey was fuming with anger over what has happened since Jesus has arrived.

  7. Friendship Joey’s jealousy made Jesus feel unwelcomed. Jesus wanted to go back home until Joey apologized. After the apology, Jesus and Joey became great friends. Jesus invited Joey to visit Nicaragua and stay with him. Joey learned that even though they were from different countries, they had the same interests and could be good friends.

  8. Gift Exchanging During the year that Jesus lived with Joey they gave gifts to each other. Joey gave Jesus a real baseball glove instead of the one Jesus made out of a cereal box. Jesus gave Joey a handmade family (made from paper) with Joey and Jesus standing next to each other and smiling.

  9. Conclusion In conclusion, Jesus’ speed won Joey’s baseball team the championship. They were able to become good friends and stay good friends until Jesus went home to Nicaragua. They got ice cream milkshakes, and did other things that they both enjoyed for the rest of that year!

  10. My Opinion I would definitely recommend this book because it teaches a very valuable lesson, “Even if you are really good at everything, you can’t always be the best”. It was interesting and fast paced. The book is entertaining and a good book to read. I think you should try it out, and if you do I hope you like it!
