  1. MID-INFRARED SEMICONDUCTOR WGM LASERS A.Yu.Kislyakova, N.S.Averkiev, A.P.Astakhova, E.A.Grebenshikova, N.D.Il’inskaya, S.S.Kizhaev, A.M.Monakhov, V.V.Sherstnev, Yu.P.Yakovlev Were first observed in 1910 in the form of sound wave travelling along the outer wall Whispering gallery modes- universal linear excitations of circular and annular resonators Circular dome of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London Lord Rayleigh Referring to the acoustic phenomenon the name “whispering gallery modes” was also coined for electromagnetic eigenmodes of circular resonators.

  2. window of atmospheric • transparency • it contains strong absorption lines • of hazardous or explosive gases Development of electrically pumped WGM semiconductor lasers for the mid-infrared waverange The spectral range of 3-5 µm is very important for applications based on molecular spectroscopy We have obtained laser emission in the mid-IR at 3 mkm from a ring resonator DH diode fabricated by MOCVD. Also we analyzed the current spreading in 3d ring laser structures using methods of numerical mathematical modeling. Coherent emission was observed at temperatures up to 125 K and was thought to originate from a whispering gallery mode. The results obtained earlier will be combined to realise room temperature mid-IR WGM lasers
