  3. Service robots for professional use: values in 2010, 2011 Annual sales[ *US$1000] “Defense” not shown • Accumulated sales • 2011: US$3.57bn, +9.2% • 2010: US$3.35bn Average unitcost: US$1.3m Milking robots4 900 units (EU) Average unitcost: ~US$1.1m Less activitythan expected Little activity dueto lacking economics Source International Federation of Robotics 2011

  4. Forecasts in service-robots 2012-2015 (estimates) Annual sales[in Mio. US$] Accumulatedsales [units] • Accumulated forecasts: • US$16.3bn • 93 770 units Source International Federation of Robotics 2011

  6. Conclusion • Industrial robotics: 2011 most successful year ever, however only smallgrowth (~2.3%) in EU expected in standard applications. • New trends create additional opportunities of using industrial robots. • Service robots on the rise in 2011 (and beyond): 4.56bn (professional SR, +9.2%) + 0.64bn (domestic SR, +14.6%) US$5.2bn sales (IR: 8.5). • Professional service robotics: • Strong European position • Strong components base enabling professional service robots designs • However, extensive SW-costs constitute a major risk in SR development • Domestic service robots: still relatively weak EU position.
