Transitioning to Common Core State Standards Students to perform to high standards Rigorous subject matter Cognitive and social skills to deal with complex challenges Life, college, and career skills Information, media, and technology skills New way of assessing using technology Increase use of nonfiction text

Partnerships • Harvest of the Month • Encourages students to try veggies they might not usually eat • Kale chips, asparagus salsa, bell peppers as snacks • Nutrition Coalition and School Food Improvement • Working with the Food Service Department to provide healthier breakfasts and lunches • BFIT…

  5. BFIT • Tahoe Forest Health System in partnership with TTUSD • All elementary schools in TTUSD participating • Goals: • Enhance children’s physical fitness • Reduce the risk of childhood obesity • Promote healthy lifestyle habits BFIT

BFIT • What’s the plan? • Teachers will implement multiple 5 minute activity bursts into the classroom • Wellness challenge interventions each month • We need parent volunteers! • 15 minutes in the classroom each month • Lead an activity burst and talk about the wellness theme of the month- materials provided! • Sign up in your child’s classroom to be the BFIT docent! BFIT

  8. KBE Parent Teacher Organization The purpose is to enrich the lives of our students through art, fitness, music, science, math, language, with cultural & social interactions and beyond.

  11. How can Parents Help? • Volunteer to be your classroom PTO representative. Connect with your teacher. • Join a PTO Council-one event or project • Sign up tonight • Join the KBE PTO email list. • Do you receive the Lions Roar newsletter? • Sign Up for Escrip-forms available tonight • 5% of all your purchases is donated back to KBE.

  12. Walk-A-Thon-October 19thSponsored by 2nd Grade What parents can do: >$500 level WAT Banner Sponsor --Banner with name hung at school and logo /name on WAT Tee shirt. Goal for 2012 = 10 $250 Level WAT Sponsor --Name and logo on WAT Tee Shirt and shirt. Goal for 2012 = 40

  13. WAT continued… • What students can do: • Raise money through donations. • Prize Incentive levels • Any participation=KBE Pencil • $1-$50=Pencil Box/Colored Pencils • $50-$100=Plush Lion • $100-$200=Soccer Ball Or Hula Hoop • $200 or more=KBE sweatshirt TOP PRIZE for one student IPOD TOUCH

  14. Kings Beach Public Library Preschool story time every Thursday, 10:30-11:00 Technology classes every 2nd and 4th Thursday Sign up for a library card and enter the raffle for a Kindle Fire. Raffle at end of month for all who have a card. Tutoring- please call for details Adult literacy and GED classes, plus a book club Would love to have older students reading to younger students

  15. Boys and Girls Club On campus Open 6:45 a.m.-6:00 p.m. for all Teens open until 7:00 Lots of great activities Wonderful, committed staff Special Kindergarten program in the morning from 8:30-9:05 and in the afternoon
