  1. Changing lives in a hospital Lilly McCue Miranda Weissman

  2. Claim In order to decrease the cases of antibiotic resistant bacteria (like wound infections and childhood ear infections), we are going to keep our hospitals squeaky clean. For the next 5 years, we are going to use our billion dollars to better sanitize our hospital to lessen the risk of catching an antibiotic resistant bacteria.

  3. Antibiotic Resistant Diseases Gonorrhea Tuber colossi Pneumonia Septicemia Ear Infections Wound Infections

  4. Facts Due to an increasing use, and misuse, of existing antibiotics in human medicine, our bodies are becoming immune to the drugs that are supposed to cure us

  5. Anne Arundel Medical Center Knee Recovery Knee replacement patients typically use a walker or crutches for two weeks, and then progress to a cane for up to four weeks. Most patients are advised to take at least one month off from work, and can start resuming normal activities, like driving, anywhere from two to six weeks. Following your knee replacement team's prescribed rehabilitation regimen-either through outpatient or in-home physical therapy-is the key to your recovery.

  6. Less Infections? Anne Arundel Medical Center has a joint replacement team that specializes in the field's most advanced surgical techniques, including less invasive and minimally invasive joint replacements, and new long-lasting replacement materials to produce optimum outcomes and rapid recovery. Having that Less invasive procedure will cause less infection, rather then cutting open the whole knee and having a full on Knee replacement. This will require expensive equipment and other hard procedures.

  7. Options There are mutiple joint replacements that you can choose from. •Total knee replacement •Partial knee replacement •Total hip replacement •Anterior hip replacement For our hospitals to reduce infections and other diseases we will give the option of partial and anterior hip and knee replacement. They will have the 2 options but we will consider the less procedure to prevent the most likely of getting infections.

  8. Spinal Surgery With the advent of minimally invasive surgery , your spine surgeon can now perform many neck and back procedures with small incisions (less than 1 inch) and a microscope. By working around the muscles, those tissues aren't cut. We would encourage that because there will be less tissue trauma, lower complications rates, less infections risk, and less pain and an easier, faster recovery

  9. Facts 70% of infections in hospitals are resistant to at least one of the drugs most commonly used for treatment

  10. Facts In the past 60 years, antibiotics have been more critical in the fight against infectious disease caused by bacteria and other microbars. Antimicrobial chemotherapy has been a leading cause for the dramatic rise of average life expectancy in the 20th century. Disease causing microbes that have become resistant to antibiotic drug therapy are an increasing public heath program.

  11. Facts Wound infections, gonorrhea, tuberculosis, pneumonia, septicemia and childhood ear infections are just a few diseases that have become hard to treat with antibiotics.

  12. Facts Disease causing microbes have become resistant to antibiotic medical therapy and are a huge public health issue

  13. Anne Arundel Medical Center Cleanliness “Always wash your hands or use the hand gel dispensers when entering the hospital and patient rooms. Hand washing is the best protection against spreading diseases. Please refrain from visiting if you have symptoms of an illness.” “Food, drink, plants and flowers are restricted in some areas. Please check with health care providers before you bring any on the units.”

  14. Our New and Improved Plan Doctors & Nurses change their masks at least every hour Put air purifiers on every floor of hospital Have cleaners come in at least once a day Add more equipment so that they don’t get worn out and have time to be cleaned after each patient All visitors sanitize hands, and depending on the patient’s reason for being at the hospital, mask or full body suit

  15. Machines The image on the left is of an Autoclave. This machine cleans the tools that the doctors use so that there is almost zero chance of any bacteria to withstand. Having a surplus of these around the hospital can only be a good thing.
