  3. Journal: Reading with Intention • 7 Oct. 2013 • What reading/ listening / note-taking strategies do you want to be intentional about today? Write these strategies in your journal and circle a few you will use today. * Break lines into smaller chunks * Use notes in margin to clarify * Read along as people read aloud or volunteer to read aloud * Choose to intentionally listen * Listen for fluctuation of the voice to help you better understand a character’s emotions * Identify a listening goal (like listening for the answer to a SGQ) * When the instructor says, "this is important" get it exactly and * (mark it). Get a reference to the text if you can. * Write notes in key words, short sentences and with abbreviations that make sense to you now and later when you study.

  4. Learning Targets • I can explain why Artemidorus begins speaking in prose, then switches to speaking in iambic pentameter. • Portia is greatly affected by Brutus’s secret. I can decipher how she is different in the end of Act 2 compared to how she behaves at the beginning of Act 2. • I can identify the speaker of this quote: “And therefore think him as a serpent’s egg / Which hatched, would as his kind grow mischievous, / And kill him in the shell” (II.i.32-34).
