  1. Any questions on the Section 2.4 homework?

  2. Reviewing for Quiz 1

  3. Quiz 1 covers all sections that we have covered so far in Chapters 1 and 2.

  4. IMPORTANT: • Be on time so you’re logged in and ready to go when I give you the password. • Bring your • POWER CORD • CALCULATOR • SHOW ALL OF YOUR WORK on the answer/worksheet provided so that we can award partial credit for partially correct work or typos.

  5. Preparing for the Quiz: 1. Review the homework from all seven homework assignments using the “Check My Grades” function: • Click on “Gradebook” menu button • Select “Homework” in Assignments heading at top

  6. Go to desired HW section, select “Review” • You can now see all of the problems from that homework assignment, along with the correct answers. (If you have followed our suggestion to show work for your homework problems in your class notebook, this will serve as a great resource for studying for quizzes and tests.)

  7. Preparing for the Quiz: 2). Take the Practice Quiz (under Assignments, Review for Quiz 1). The practice quiz is longer than the real quiz, but has similar problems and will give you a chance to see the difference between doing problems in a homework setting vs. a timed quiz with no “help” or “check answer” functions. Each time you take the practice quiz you’ll get a different set of questions (not just different numbers in the same questions), so taking it multiple times will make it more likely that you’ll have seen most of the types of problems that will be on the actual quiz. (We’ll give you time to get started on this in class today)

  8. You can take the practice quiz as many times as you want, and the computer will generate new problems for you each time. You don’t need a password to access the practice versions of tests and quizzes. Your best practice quiz score WILL count a small percentage in your overall course grade. After each try, you can review your quiz and see how to do the problems you got wrong.(Come to the open lab if you need help.)

  9. Why you should keep taking the practice quiz until you can score at least 90%: (A) (B+) (almost a C-) (low F)

  10. REMINDERS: • Take the practice quiz early enough so you’ll have time to review it, retake it, come into the open lab for help if needed. • Review each practice quiz after you submit it. (The “help me solve this” buttons will appear when you review the quiz) • You have unlimited attempts, so retake the practice quiz until you score at least 90% • If you score < 90%, come into the open lab to review your quiz with a TA. (Or just take the practice quiz in the open lab to start with …)

  11. Preparing for the Quiz (continued): 3). Review your notes and/or the online lecture slides (top link under each Assignment in MyLab). (You can also access the lecture slides outside of Course Compass by going to our website at http://mathtlc.uwstout.edu/ and clicking on the Math 110 link.)

  12. Installation of Lockdown Browser: • We will now be installing the lockdown browser for Pearson’s My Lab & Mastering • This is different from the D2L lockdown browser.

  13. Lockdown Browser Quiz • After everyone has the lockdown browser installed, we will do a very short quiz to make sure that the browser is properly installed. (Sometimes it’s a bit touchy.) • The quiz has only 1 question and it counts 0 points but we want to avoid browser hassles tomorrow when you take Quiz 1 during class.

  14. Click on Assignments Click on Review for Quiz 1

  15. Click “here” under Practice Quiz 1

  16. Select “Lockdown Browser Quiz”

  17. Type in password: Install Install Click “OK” button

  18. When installation is complete, click continue and start the Lockdown Browser Quiz. NOTE: It will take a few minutes for the quiz questions to load when using the lockdown browser. Remember, this Browser Quiz does NOT count for points towards your course grade, but Practice Quiz 1 does count for points. (Your best score on Practice Quiz 1 counts that percentage of 2 course points.) When you finish the quiz, click SUBMIT. You will then see the following message. Click Continue.

  19. When you finish the Browser quiz, go ahead and start Practice Quiz 1, and we’ll come around to help if you have questions. (There is no password for practice quizzes.) • You can take the Practice Quiz as many times as you want. You’ll get a different set of questions each time, and only your best score counts for points. • Remember, come to the open lab if you need help on any problems on the practice quiz.(Lab is open 8:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.)

  20. Final Reminders: • Be on time so you’re logged in and ready to go when I give you the password. • Bring your • POWER CORD (and internet cord if you can) • CALCULATOR • SHOW ALL OF YOUR WORK on the answer/worksheet provided so that we can award partial credit for partially correct work or typos.
