Guwahati is the capital and the most important city in Assam that also serves as the gateway to the other six north eastern Indian states of Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Meghalaya also revered as the seven sisters. 2. Another great thing that Assam has to offer is the world famous Assam Tea and when you are in Assam, you must invariably try it. Assam is the world's largest tea-growing region owing to the favorable tropical climatic conditions ideal for tea plantation. If you are planning a trip to Assam during the Tea Festival, 'Guwahati Tea Auction Center' (GTAC) in Guwahati, is a must visit place. It boasts of being the largest in India of its kind. Not many people know that during the 19th century, Assam tea revolutionized the world’s tea drinking habits by producing different exotic tea variants like green & white tea, each with their own taste & distinctive features. Assam is also blessed with an abundance of natural mineral resources like petroleum and takes pride in its crude petroleum production oil fields at Digboi. It is the second oldest oil well in the world along with four other oil refineries located at Guwahati, Duliajan, Bongaigaon, and Numaligarh. However, these are just a few reasons that make the mystical land of Guwahati, and the rest of Assam, worth visiting. Nevertheless, there are several more things to explore in the region, which will definitely give every discerning traveller a reason to visit it.
