  1. Mighty Spiders!

  2. Have you read this book? If so, you are ready to begin.

  3. Hi boys and girls. We need your help. Most people do not like spiders. But spiders are helpful animals. Help us teach people about spiders. Like us, spiders get rid of pests. Spiders eat flies and mosquitoes. Let’s learn some more about spiders. Activity 1 Activity 2

  4. Activity 1: Spider Eyes Have you looked closely at a spider? Have you seen a spiders eyes?

  5. 1. Use a hand lens to look at the spiders on your table. 2. Now look for the spider’s eyes. Draw a picture of what your spider’s eyes looked like.

  6. Did your spider have eyes like one of the pictures here? Domestic Spider Wolf Spider Jumping Spider Grass Spider

  7. Activity 2: Web Walking Have you ever wondered how a spider can walk on it’s web and not get stuck? Let us show you.

  8. Here is what you will need.

  9. 1. Put tape across the plate, sticky side up. The tape is your spider web. 2. Use your fingers as spider legs to walk on the web. Do your feet stick to the web?

  10. 3. Put a little oil on the paper towel. Be careful. Do not spill the oil! 5. Now walk on your web again. What happened? 4. Wipe some oil from the towel on your “walking feet.”

  11. Spiders have oily feet too! That is what keeps them from getting caught in their own web.

  12. We hope you learned some new things about spiders. If you want to hear the song again, then click here
