  4. Terms • Students – technophobes / technophiles / digital natives / learning styles - preferences • Teachers - technophobes / technophiles / ‘healthy sceptics’

  5. A practical definition “Blended Learning refers to a language course which combines a F2F (face-to-face) classroom component with an appropriate use of technology” (Sharma / Barrett)

  6. What makes BL work? Four principles • (1) Separate the role of the teacher and the technology - “fuzzy” vs “crisp” • (2) Principled teaching – led by pedagogy, not technology • (3) Complement / enhance / integration • (4) “It’s not what it is, it’s what you do with it” (Jones)
