  1. Nominations CommitteeReport Dushan Boroyevich Immediate Past President PELS AdCom Meeting APEC 2013, Long Beach, CA, USA March 22, 2013

  2. Nominations Committee Charter NomCommembers are expected to: • Assist NomCom Chair between May and September in seeking suitable candidates in the elections for: • 6 AdComMembers-at-Large every year, • President-Elect every odd year, • 3 Vice Presidents every even year; • Attend in person NomComAnnual Meeting every fall to select the final slate of candidates for that year’s elections by secret ballot; • Assist as necessary the NomComChair and PELS staff every November in conducting the elections; • Accept to serve for 3 years.

  3. My Past Issues with NomCom Member Selection • “The Nominations Committee shall consist of a chairperson and nine members-at-large. … The term of each member-at-large is for three years, with three members appointed each year.” These “members-at-large” are not the “AdCom Members-at-Large”, but I assumed so! • “The chairperson of the Nominations Committee shall be either the senior past president or the immediate past president of the AdCom.” Deepak and Hiro were not available so I appointed Dean.

  4. Current Rules for NomCom Member Selection • “The Nominations Committee shall consist of a chairperson and nine distinguished Members of the Society.” • “The chairperson of the Nominations Committee shall be the Immediate Past President of the AdCom.” • “The members appointed to the Nominations Committee shall be selected by the Society President and approved by the AdCom. The term of each Nominations Committee member shall be for no more than three years, with at least three new members being appointed each year.”

  5. Past Nominations Committee Members

  6. Proposal for 2013 NomCom Member Selection • 2-3 members that served for the last two years (preferably not current AdCom members), • 2-3 members that served only in the last year (preferably not current AdCommembers), • 3-5 new distinguished members, • Submit the proposed members to President by the end of April and to AdCom for e-mail approval by the end of May.

  7. Additional Guidelines for NomCom Member Selection • Regional representation: R1-R6 = 4; R7 = 1; R8 = 2; R9 = 1; R10 = 2. • Professional representation: academia ≤ 5; industry ≥ 4; other (government, retired, consultants) = 1. • Demographic representation: male over 40 ≤ 8; female ≥ 1; under 40 ≥ 1. Try to re-establish 3-year staggered terms by 2014.
