WALT: Explain ways in which attitudes to sex outside of marriage have changed Explain reasons why many people believe that adultery and promiscuity are wrong Changing attitudes to sex outside of marriage In the lesson today and throughout this topic we are going to look at how attitudes to sex, marriage and family life have changed In your books explain how you think attitudes in Britain have changed regarding the following: Sex outside of marriage Divorce Cohabitation You could start your paragraph off with: Over the past few decades in Britain I think that attitudes towards sex outside of marriage have changed and it is more/less acceptable to have sex without being married Success criteria:To achieve a C grade: You need to be able to recognise and explain key words To achieve a B grade: You need to be able to explain how attitudes have changed To achieve an A grade: You need to be able to give reasons why some people think marriage is out of date

In your groups discuss the questions on the sheet, you will be asked to explain your answers to the rest of the class A typical cohabitating relationship lasts three years A typical marriage averages eleven years By 2012, most babies will be born to unmarried couples In 2005, the number of people who got married was at the lowest since records began Success criteria:To achieve a C grade: You need to be able to recognise and explain key words To achieve a B grade: You need to be able to explain how attitudes have changed To achieve an A grade: You need to be able to give reasons why some people think marriage is out of date

In pairs you will be given a viewpoint to explain You will either be For the argument that Marriage is out of date Or Against the argument that Marriage is out of date You will then be paired up with a group who have the opposite point of view to you You need to convince them that your argument is correct, so you need to share your reasons with them You could create a poster/list/mindmap/speech/song to help you get your point across Finally you need to be able to know reasons for both points of views (You’ll be tested on these) Success criteria:To achieve a C grade: You need to be able to recognise and explain key words To achieve a B grade: You need to be able to explain how attitudes have changed To achieve an A grade: You need to be able to give reasons why some people think marriage is out of date
