K-12 Update • Internet Access: • 89% of buildings, direct connection • 63% of classrooms are connected (with at least one computer) • 109,070 Internet connected computers in the classroom • 6.6:1 students to Internet connected computer • DESE Funding for Technology • $12M DESE Entitlement grants/$4.8M district match • $10M DESE Competitive grants • District MOREnet Participation Fees • $1,500-6,000 based on # of FTE certificated staff (discounted 50% as a result of MOREnet E-rate reimbursements) Source: 1999 Missouri School District Computing Census/OSEDA

  10. eMINTS - Enhancing Missouri’s Instructional Networked Teaching Strategies • Based on success of pilot in St. Louis area • 2 classrooms each in 88 districts, grades 3-5 • Technology at the teachers/students desk • Professional development & field support • Transformed the way teachers teach & students learn • Improved student test scores • District challenges to support & expand
