  1. Control and Monitoring System / EPICS Pete Owens Daresbury Laboratory

  2. General Philosophy • Control system is based on EPICS. • In general, individual groups are to be responsible for interfacing their own equipment to EPICS • DL will provide overall infrastructure and support • In agreed cases, DL will take responsibility for developing individual EPICS applications eg. Beamline PSUs, Decay Solenoid PSU etc. • Naming convention • Long-term support. Who will take on operational responsibility for day-to-day management of systems? Pete Owens – Daresbury Laboratory

  3. EPICS tools • Channel Access (CA) • Display Manager (EDM) • Archiver • Alarm handler • Backup and restore • Strip Chart • Etc. Pete Owens – Daresbury Laboratory

  4. Naming Convention • Device:Subsystem:Record • A-Z, 0-9, -, : • MICE-PC-MQ-03:VOUT • MICE-VA-VALVE-06:ILK • MICE-VA-IMG-002:RLA:SP Pete Owens – Daresbury Laboratory

  5. Network Personnel Safety Beamline PSUs Decay Solenoid PSU Hydrogen System Target Tracker RF System Control Room Status of individual projects Pete Owens – Daresbury Laboratory

  6. Network • Network layout drawn up, circulated to interested parties and agreed. • All sockets will be configurable between MICE Control network, Visitor network, RAL office network or telephone • Rack and all network equipment purchased and ready for installation • To be transferred to RAL on Wednesday Pete Owens – Daresbury Laboratory

  7. Network Rack NETWORK SWITCH SITE FIBRE FEED Sockets in MICE LCR and hall 100 to 150 PATCH PANEL TELEPHONES x12 NETWORK SWITCH NETWORK SWITCH ATLAS CENTRE FIBRE DATA AQUISITION PC Pete Owens – Daresbury Laboratory

  8. Personnel Safety • PPS hardware and logic has been designed , procured and the racks built and tested. • An EPICS interface will be provided for remote monitoring of operation. • XML gateway to be added to feed information back to the ISIS control system. • Still some issues remaining about the hall search philosophy, siting of search buttons etc. Pete Owens – Daresbury Laboratory

  9. Beamline PSUs • Racks built up – imminent delivery to RAL • 12 Danfysik System 9000 PSUs • RS422 serial comms to IOC • EPICS database • EDM user interface Pete Owens – Daresbury Laboratory

  10. Decay Solenoid PSU • The power supply has been tested at DL • Control electronics have been reverse engineered • PLC system was old, complex and difficult to support so has been abandoned in favour of an EPICS IOC • Quench detection and heater control electronics have been refurbished and tested • New control software scheme has been agreed • IOC being built up. Pete Owens – Daresbury Laboratory

  11. Hydrogen System • Meetings have been held to discuss control requirements for the H2 system • Little progress possible until the decay solenoid system is complete. Pete Owens – Daresbury Laboratory

  12. Target • Sheffield group responsible for providing the control interface to the target drive system • DL will provide training, advice if necessary Pete Owens – Daresbury Laboratory

  13. Tracker • Imperial to develop their own EPICS software to control the tracker. • DL will provide training, advice if necessary Pete Owens – Daresbury Laboratory

  14. RF System • Design review planned to be held at DL in the next couple of months. • This will include control requirements Pete Owens – Daresbury Laboratory

  15. Control Room • 2 Servers • 2 Console PCs • Currently being configured at DL Pete Owens – Daresbury Laboratory
