Establish a thesis: Your thesis should answer the question of Why this approach is appropriate for this text? What does using this approach reveal to us?? Establish a preview: Your preview should answer the 3rd question where you answer what will you show about the author and time period. EXAMPLE: Looking at this novel through the lens of a feminist critic, it is apparent that Hester is shown to be strong woman; her “A” is changed from a meaning of sin and shame to a meaning of being able. Introduction Tips

  3. Start each paragraph with a Topic Sentence that ties this back to your thesis and alerts us that this is a character analysis paragraph. USE THE TEXT TO BACK YOU UP! Remember to TIE IT BACK TO YOUR THESIS that Hester is strong. Answer all of the questions after “Answer”: Use 2 specific examples to back you up! Cite the text Character Analysis
