USF’s College of Engineering Founded in 1964, John Wiencek is the current and sixth Dean of the College of Engineering, comprising 3,800 undergraduate and graduate students, and 115 faculty that perform $23 million of research annually.   7. Chemical & Biomedical Engineering The biomass fuels research team recently placed fourth in the world in the Dept. of Energy’s Global Venture Challenge 2010. The project uses a catalyst that converts waste products into jet fuel. The Clean Energy Research Center is working to harness Florida’s abundance of solar energy and is part of the Florida Energy Systems Consortium.

  9. Civil & Environmental Engineering The Center for Urban Transportation Research is a nationally recognized center of excellence in mass transportation and planning issues. Interdisciplinary / EPA funding - Project transforms storm water pond areas into community-friendly green spaces. The Power Center for Utility Exploration (PCUE) has been awarded millions of dollars in research funding to upgrade Florida’s outdated power grid system in conjunction with power companies.
