  2. Knowsley, Liverpool and Sefton submitted a joint bid to be part of BOND – we recognised that we were all in different places. Together it allowed us to review and begin to unpick how we needed to work with key partners such as schools and Clinical Commissioning Groups - • BOND

  3. Using national statistics and recent research, evidence suggests that a range of between 10 to 15% of children have a mental health problem, which would equate to between 3,930 and 5,235 children and young people in Knowsley (NAC, 2008, Kurtz, 1996). • The statistics regarding mental health issues in children and young people are stark with • Three children in every classroom has a diagnosable mental health disorder • One in five young adults show signs of an eating disorder • One in 12 deliberately harm themselves (25,000 of them are hospitalised each year because of this) • Nearly 80,000 children and young people suffer from severe depression (youngminds 2012) • National Data

  4. Knowsleys Joint Strategic Needs Assessment highlighted that almost 4000 CYP aged 0-19 have a diagnosable mental health issue • JSNA

  5. In a time of reducing budgets, we needed to increase our capacity to meet need earlier • Developed an outcomes framework with providers - • We looked at existing partnerships – Public Health, HTs .. Area based Children and Family Partnership Boards • What did we do ?

We evaluated the T2 services • More than half (60%) of the schools in Knowsley had children or young people who had received T2 support over quarters 1 and 2 • Of the 60%, 49% were young people from Centre’s for Learning. 38% were from primary schools   • 1400 CYP had accessed the system ….. • Working with BOND

  7. 50% featured anger issues • 39% featured self harm/suicide • 32% had experienced some form of bereavement • 21% included anxiety • 21% had domestic abuse within the family • 21% had criminal activity in some form • Case Studies – Opportunities to intervene earlier

  8. Linked the Young Foundations capabilities- refined our thinking regarding monitoring and outcomes based accountability - • One language that made sense to everyone • Woking with Providers to Evidence Outcomes

  9. Communication • Confidence and Agency • Planning & Problem Solving • Creativity • Resilience • Managing Feelings • Relationships & Leadership • Capabilities

We took an area based approach – key area leaders came together to look at need and to identify potential opportunities to do things differently • BOND and National College for Teaching and Leadership facilitated a workshop to build capacity to commission against local need • Specific families were identified and action plans developed to support them • All partners flexed outside their normal parameter of involvement • Relationships matter • Partnership work

  11. BOND Workshop – to support local leaders think like commissioners • The Evaluation gave us the evidence • The Outcomes framework gave us the one language that all could understand • Partnership Work

  12. Enabled us to have some thinking space • Empowered us to look at things differently • Legacy • Gap analysis – opportunities to intervene earlier • Children with increased vulnerability • Turning the curve activity • Commissioning plan ? • Moving on, not stopping .....
