  6.  Your task • Complete a table similar to the one below on the different schools of thought (historiography) on p.58-61 of Philips.

  7.  Your task • Study the sources on p.61-2 and complete a table similar to the one below

  8.  Role play • Divide into 4 groups. One of you is to take on the persona of the author of either source K, L, M or N and explain your point of view. Choose a partner to support your view with evidence from their own knowledge. The audience will interrogate you and try to put forward counter views.

  9.  Plenary • Summarise the views of the three main schools of thought. • Which schools do these authors belong to: • William A Williams • George Kennan • John Lewis Gaddis • D.Volkogonov
