  4. What can YOU do to prepare for an emergency? • Get a Kit • Make a Plan • Stay Informed

  5. 1. Create a Kit of Emergency Supplies • At Home • On the Go

Water Food Battery Powered/Hand crank radio Flashlight First Aid kit Whistle Filter mask Moist towlettes for sanitation Wrench Pliers Manual Can Opener Plastic Sheeting and duct tape to shelter in place Garbage Bags and plastic ties Extra batteries Unique family needs – daily prescription meds, infant formula, diapers, pet food, and important family documents Checklist

  7. What to store… • Food • Supply of non-perishable food that does not require refrigeration or cooking • Minimum of three day supply

  8. What to store….. • Water • 1 gallon of water per person per day (2 quarts for drinking, 2 quarts for food preparation/sanitation) – use containers that will not decompose such as 2-liter soft drink bottles • Minimum of three days • Commercially bottled recommended

  9. If you need special medical care… • Necessary medical supplies such as glucose and blood pressure monitoring equipment • Talk to your healthcare provide to ensure adequate access to your medications • If you receive ongoing medical care such as dialysis, chemotherapy, or other therapies, talk to your health care provider • Have non-prescription drugs and other health supplies on hand

Caring for Animals • Identify shelter • Gather pet supplies • Ensure your pet has proper ID and up-to-date veterinarian records • Pet carrier and leash • Call your local emergency management office, animal shelter or animal control office to get advice and information • With the exception of service animals, pets are not typically permitted in emergency shelters
