  2. Your Quest • As China becomes a world power the Chinese Government has recently decided to review their some of their current policies. • They want a fair assessment of their policies to decide which might need to change. • In order to do this they have decided to hire an Independent Counsel. They have asked for outsiders with no ties to China to look at their policies to see if they are working and what needs to be fixed. • They have asked the following three policies be looked at: Pollution, Endangered Species and Business.

  3. Your Task • You will be placed into an expert group and focus on one of the topic areas. • Each group will be responsible for understanding the content of their topic. You should view all information on each site. Don’t just skip around, you are responsible to know all the information. • You will need to answer the following: What is China currently doing about your topic? Has this been effective or not? Why? How would you advise the Chinese Government to make changes, improve, and fix any issues you find? • Finally, in your group you will discuss and make recommendations in your area to the Chinese government. • For grading purposes you will need to turn in your own work as well as your group recommendations.

  4. Pollution • Your task: You will look at the following sites and be able to answer the guiding question(s) for each site. • Sources and Effects—What are the sources and effects of pollution? Compared to the past how is China’s current pollution? What is the overall evaluation of the pollution problem? • Problems What diseases and sicknesses are taking their toll? Economic development vs. Environment? • Video—Thoughts after viewing

Business • Your task: You will look at the following sites and be able to answer the guiding question(s) for each site. • China's Economy—What happened from 2010-Present? • Successes—How has China’s poverty improved? What is the gap between rich and poor? What are the current inequality trends? • Capitalism vs. Communism—How is China making Capitalism work in a Communist country? Why is it working? • Final part: What is China’s current GDP? What are current industries in China? What is the current labor force?   7. Independent Counsel • Work with your group and discuss what recommendations you would make to the Chinese Government. • Present your recommendations to the Chinese Government (me;). Support your advice with facts and give valid reasons for your recommendations.

  8. Grading Checklist • You will need the following items for full credit. • Individual Work-answering guiding questions on your task • Individual Work– Final part: What is China currently doing about your topic? Has this been effective or not? Why? How would you advise the Chinese Government to make changes, improve, and fix any issues you find? • Group Work—Recommendations to the Chinese Government. Support your advice with facts and give valid reasons for your recommendations. • Presentation-Presentation Rubric
