  1. Materials Delivery at Rutgers University Libraries A Refresher Course and Overview of Services Date: October 5, 2005

  2. The following areas will be discussed: • Deliver / Recall Books (Holds) • Request Article / Other • Web Document Delivery • PALCI (E-ZBorrow) • Interlibrary Loan (ILL) • MY ACCOUNT • Media Booking

  3. RUL Departmental Collaboration • Access Services • Imaging Services • Interlibrary Loan Services • Shipping & Receiving • Systems • “A-Team” members from Technical and Automated Services • All of these departments actively collaborate to provide efficient delivery services to users on a daily basis.

  4. Have your card ready and click on the Deliver/Recall Book button.

  5. Why was my hold cancelled? In-library items at the user’s pickup library. Items on the same campus as the pick-up location. Items that are missing.

  6. I wish to cancel / alter a hold. What do I do? A user cannot cancel a hold. Users may write to “Ask-A-Librarian” with the title of the item they do not need. After two weeks, the hold will be removed from your record.

  7. Have your card ready and click on the Request Article/Other button.

  8. How may I request a non-circulating item? • User will need to use the “Request Article / Other” button. Note: Non-circulating items are delivered only between different Rutgers campuses (Camden, New Brunswick/Piscataway, Newark).

  9. When else can I use the “Request Article/Other” button? • For items from a non-circulating library (Art, Jazz, SPCOL/UA). • For items from other non-circulating sub-locations (PER, DOCREF). • Materials that are ON-ORDER, PENDING, or IN-PROCESS. • Law library and off-campus patrons can use this to request Rutgers materials since they cannot use the Deliver/Recall button.

  10. FROM: Any Major Geographical Campus Library TO: User’s home campus-affiliated PC COST: New Brunswick/Piscataway Camden or Newark FREE: up to 30 pages per article. If article exceeds 30 pages, the journal is sent to user’s pickup library for 5 days in-library use. Newark New Brunswick/Piscataway or Camden Camden New Brunswick/Piscataway or Newark Library Annex Any Location When is Web Document Delivery free? * There is no charge for Web Document Delivery of Interlibrary Loan articles.

  12. What do I need to do to open a deposit account? There are two types of accounts: Personal (individual) Departmental (shared) Minimum of $30.00 required for opening Deposit Account. Forms for opening accounts are available on RUL web page.

  13. How may I borrow material NOT owned at any Rutgers Library? Option One : For quick delivery of books use E-ZBORROW (PALCI). Option Two: For all article requests and books not found in the EZBORROW catalog use INTERLIBRARY LOAN.

  14. When can I request an E-ZBorrow book? CHECKED OUT ON-HOLD for another user. Listed in IRIS as MISSING. Located in a non-circulating collection.

  15. Can I request articles using E-ZBorrow? NO Only books are available.

  16. To get to the PALCI catalog, scroll over Search IRIS and Other Catalogs. Click on the link for E-ZBorrow, PALCI.

  17. Click on the top link – PALCI, with E-ZBorrow.

  18. Enter your barcode number. No pin number is required.

  19. Click on searching/requesting.

  20. There are three groups of catalogs to choose from.

  21. Select the item you want by clicking on “request”.

  22. What else do I need to know about E-ZBorrow? • 28 day loan period • One renewal • Seven day recall policy • Delivery only to on-campus Rutgers pickup locations.

  23. What may I borrow using Interlibrary Loan? • Books • Dissertations, newspapers • Periodical articles • Items not owned by RUL. • Items listed on IRIS as MISSING. • Recalled and not returned. • Long overdue and billed for replacement. • Items that are in the bindery.

  24. How may I request materials held by the Rutgers Law Libraries? If you are a Rutgers faculty, staff or student use the Interlibrary Loan Services form.

  25. To get to the Interlibrary Loan login page, scroll over Delivery and Interlibrary Loan. Click on the link for Interlibrary Loan Services.

  26. Enter your first name, last name, barcode number, email address, and choose a pickup location from the pull down menu. No pin number is required.

  27. The Request ID number is noted here. Any special restrictions are checked off in the middle. The renewal policy is mentioned here. Always scan and discharge the item using the barcode on the band. The recall policy is also mentioned.

  28. The Request ID number is noted here. Patrons should not return PALCI books to the address indicated on the band.

  29. PALCI at the Circ. Desk • Upon return, discharge PALCI books promptly. • Patrons will receive an overdue notice when the book is just one day late. • PALCI books are returned to ILS.

  30. ILL, PALCI Multi-volume sets at the Circulation Desk • There is only one hold on the first volume of a multi-volume sets. • Use the “Check Item Status” wizard on the first volume and make the hold available. • Patron will get a hold-available notice from the first volume, and staff will be able to charge and discharge all volumes as usual.

  31. Select checkout wizard, enter patron’s barcode, and click on the Special Due Date icon.

  32. Enter in special due date indicated on band. Click Ok.

  33. *Note: When prompted with message “user checkout block override”, enter override and charge to patron. Scan the item barcode.
