Champ® Induction Lighting • How Induction Lighting Works • Light generation is by induction – the transmission of energy via a magnetic field. • The generator produces a high frequency current that creates an alternating magnetic field in the power coupler. • The alternating magnetic field (induced current) causes the acceleration of charged particles of metal vapor in the lamp bulb.

  6. Champ® Induction Lighting • How Induction Lighting Works • The particles collide raising the energy level to state that results in the generation of UV radiation. • When struck by the UV radiation, fluorescent phosphors coating the interior of the lamp emit light.

Champ® Induction Lighting FAQs • Will the high frequency generator have any effect on instruments, gauges, radio transmissions, etc.? • All the electronics are housed in a metal box with screening against RFI to ensure that there is no interference with other instruments. When the metal housing and power coupler are properly electrically connected to ground potential, the system will fulfill all requirements regarding electromagnetic compatibility.

  17. Champ® Induction Lighting FAQs • What is the input voltage for the Champ induction? • The 55 & 85-watt units have an operating voltage range of 108 to 132VAC or 200 to 277VAC. The 165-watt unit only operates on 200 to 277VAC. So it is similar to a multi-tap ballast such that one ballast can operated at various voltages. For example, the 200 to 277VAC unit can operate at 208, 220, 230, 240 & 277VAC • For additional questions, see the supplement titled, “Frequently Asked Questions”
