  2. Why did you come here??? According to Surveys: 1. Grow closer to God 2. Figure out God’s will/plan for your life.

  3. Figuring out God’s “plan” for you can seem overwhelming 1st step is to focus on WHO God created you to be and not WHAT he created you to do. Matthew 6:33 – Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.

  4. 3 Things we know about God: • 1. He is a God of Preparation • Jeremiah 1 • OT Kings – Going into battle • Walls of Jericho • Foreshadowing of Christ

  5. 2. God will direct our steps • Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not in your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and he shall direct your way (steps). • Proverbs 20:24 – A man’s steps are directed by the Lord. How then can anyone understand his own way? • Jeremiah 10:23 – I know, Oh Lord, that a man’s life is not his own; it is not for man to direct his steps.

  6. 3. God Speaks to us…that means YOU! Examples from the Bible of God speaking to people… Luke 1:26 – In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee. Matthew 2:12-13 – And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route. They had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream…

  7. Jeremiah18:1-10 – The word of the Lord came to a prophet (Jeremiah) as he watched a potter at the wheel. I Kings 19:12 – After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. Exodus3:2 – There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Acts 22:17-18 – When I returned to Jerusalem and was praying at the temple, I fell into a trance and saw the Lord speaking…

  10. Exodus 19:16-19 – On the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning, with a thick cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast. Everyone in the camp trembled. Then Moses led the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the Lord descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, the whole mountain trembled violently, and the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder. Then Moses spoke and the voice of God answered him. Acts 1:23-26 – Joseph and Matthias cast lots for who was to take over Judas portion of the ministry. Exodus 8 – God sends the plagues on Egypt…

God Speaks through the Bible: II Timothy 3:16-17 – All Scripture is God-Breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training I righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. Deuteronomy 32:46-47 – He said to them, “Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. They are not just idle words for you they are your life. By them you will live long in the land.

  12. Joshua 1:8 – Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. John 15:7 – If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be given you.

  13. God speaks through prayer: Jeremiah 33:3 – Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. Matthew 21:22- If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. Luke 11: 9-13 – Ask and it will be given, seek and you will find… John 16:23 – In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. I John 3:22 - …and receive from Him anything we ask, because we obey His commands and do what pleases Him.

  14. God speaks through circumstances: Genesis 6-8 – Noah Exodus17:8-16 – Israelites in battle, Aaron and Hur hold up Moses arms. Genesis 13:1-18 – Abram and Lot split land Genesis 26:17-25 – Issac keeps getting chased off land until he was where God wanted him.

God speaks through circumstances: Judges 6 – Gideon asks for a sign II Samuel 24 – Sent a plague that killed 70,000 men because David took a census Numbers 22:28 – Then the Lord opened the donkey’s mouth… Romans 8:28 – And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, who have been called according to His purpose.

  16. God speaks through the church • Prophecy • Confirmation • Teaching • Multitude of Counselors

  17. God speaks through the power of peace: Romans 8:37-39 – No in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Philippians 4:6-7 – Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.

  18. You have to learn how you best hear God…how does He speak to you? Isaiah 50:4 – The Sovereign Lord has given me His words of wisdom, so that I know what to say to all these weary ones. Morning by morning he wakens me and opens my understanding to His will. John 10:3-5 – Sheep follow the voice of the shepherd and no one else because they know his voice…do you KNOW the voice of God? You must PRACTICE hearing the voice of God!
