  2. THE COMMISSION • There is one commissioner from each EU country. The president chooses the commissioners from the lists of candidates. The Council of Ministers approval the list and European Parliament approval it too.

  3. THE COMMISSION AND BETTER LAWS • The Commission has been working to simplify and improve the regulatory environment in the EU, so they do better laws.

  4. THE COMMISSION MEET... • They meet once a week. In practice, this happens on Wednesdays in Brussels, except in the weeks when the European Parliament holds its plenary sessions.

  5. The Commission's role in the EU lawmaking process • The Commission's job is to represent the common European interest to all the EU countries. It proposes legislative acts for the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers, and then they adopt.

  6. How does the Commission take decisions? • 1.- The Commission decides by majority, the members of the commission. • 2.- By written procedure.The proposal is circulated in all members of the Commission. • 3.- By empowerment.The Commission can empower one or more of its members to decide in its name. • 4.- By delegation.

  7. HOW IS THE COMMISSION STRUCTURED? • The Commission is divided into some 40 directorates-general, services and directorates into units.

  8. WHO IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE COMMISSION CHOSEN? • The European Council proposes a candidate to the European Parliament. That person must then be approved by a majority of Parliament's members.
