  5. The Psychology of Sitting Does where you choose to sit in class reveal anything about your personality? What do you think?

  6. People who sit in the front… • want to be close to the teacher, like to be seen, be outgoing, • may be "brown-nosers", • like to be up front where all the action is (perhaps even to help them stay awake), • want to be sure they hear everything that the teacher says (perhaps are grade-conscious?)

  7. People who sit in the back… • may like to sleep during class (are "slackers"?) • like to see everything that's happening in the room (are "observers") • dislike attention or, • LIKE the attention of having everyone turn around to see them when they talk • like the security of having their back against a wall, are oppositional or rebellious.

  8. People who sit… by the windoware daydreamers, like the "freedom" of having wide-open space next to them (but often pay the price of being far from the door) by the doorlike having a quick way out of a situation, are often in a rush in the middlelike to be inconspicuous, like to blend in with the crowd, are possibly shy people the loneravoids sitting near other people the changlingsits in various seats (likes variety, likes to see things from different perspectives, is indecisive, likes to experiment?) http://www.eric.ed.gov/ERICWebPortal/search/detailmini.jsp?_nfpb=true&_&ERICExtSearch_SearchValue_0=ED169587&ERICExtSearch_SearchType_0=no&accno=ED169587

  9. Trait Theories (Biological) What shapes our personality? A trait theorist would say our individual personality traits with which we are born. Traits are unchanging Trait theories ONLY describe…they do not explain their origins. Early Theorists

  10. Hippocrates – a biological theory Greek physician Hippocrates was one of the first to try to explain where traits came from. -Greeks believed that the body contains fluids called humors -Hippocrates felt that traits were the result of different combinations of the bodily fluids Basic fluids Yellow bile: quick-tempered (c)Blood: warm/cheerful (s) Phlegm: sluggish/cool disposition black bile: thoughtful (m)

  11. Hans Eysenck’s Personality Dimensions Eysenckfocused on the relationship between two personality dimensions (range) Introversion --------extroversion Emotional stability ---instability -He used these dimensions to organize personality traits Introvert: imaginative & look inward for ideas & energy Extrovert: active; self-expressive & tend to gain energy from others

  12. The Five Factor Model This model was developed by many psychologists It describes five basic factors or dimensions of personality Each dimension has a range. OCEAN Extroversion Agreeableness Conscientiousness Neuroticism: (Emotional Stability-Instability) Openness to New Experience https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ar1kEN_ZPNM&feature=g-logo (Quiet – the Power of Introverts)
