  1. Let’s Get Physical! La’Shavia Chambers 5th pd. Physical Science/STTRIDE

  2. Think Back! Think back on this journey and how much you have learned from your peers. Now jot down some questions you may have about this chapter and at the end I will try to answer them to best of my ability.

  3. Vocabulary check In this chapter there were a lot of familiar and strange looking words which we didn’t know the true meaning of them for example, who in this room knew the scientific definition of temperature before they even opened the book? I just knew it told the difference between hot and cold. Give me some more words which you knew but had no idea what the true meaning was and lets look them up in this chapter.

  4. Temperature * Temperature like we said on the last slide determines not only is something is hot or cold but it measures the average kinetic energy the particles in an object. * There are different things which determines the temp. of an object, what are these objects we use called to determine how hot or how cold an object is?

  5. What determines temp.? • Thermometers: measure heat. In Brads presentation what were the examples he gave you of an thermometer?

  6. Energy Transfer • Energy is always being transferred weather it’s from your hands to a table or your hands on a ice glass of lemonade heat is always being transferred from a higher level to a lower energy level. For example, it’s a cold winter day you’re outside playing with no gloves on and when you touch your face you can tell that your hands are ice cold and the reason being is because the heat transfers from off of your face to your hand which allows you to feel the difference.

  7. Why use rubber? • Rubber handles on pots and sturing utensils are used in the kitchen because they are good insulators which means heat does not go through them very easily. • Metal pots are great conductors because heat energy transfers through them very quick and easily.

  8. Using Heat • Turn to page 435
