  2. Welcome! • Welcome Alexander II parents and family members! Information shared at this meeting: • Having a successful year in 5th grade • Information from each teacher • 5th grade trip to Tybee Island

Meeting the Standards in 5th Grade • Standards Mastery- Wednesday papers, Parent Portal, and Student-Led Conferences • PBIS, Leader in Me, and ClassDojo- Be safe, be respectful, be responsible • Lexile scores- Reading for AR each evening • Math Facts- Practicing math facts each evening using First in Math

  4. How Can Parents and Families Help? • Checking ClassDojo messages daily. • Encourage 20-30 minutes of reading every night (set a timer). • Daily discussions about classroom activities: • Show me what you did in your reading/math/science/social studies journal today. • Review Wednesday papers together and make corrections. • Daily Math Fact Practice • Daily discussions about PBIS behavior goals.

  5. PBIS • PBIS- Positive Behavior Intervention System- PBIS Matrixes have been posted throughout the building and classrooms. Students are taught through PBIS lessons and assessed to ensure the PBIS expectations are understood. Goal: On-task behavior • Be Safe • Be Respectful • Be Responsible

  6. Leader in Me • Students are being taught about the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Students • Be Proactive • Circle of Control vs. Circle of No Control • Push Your Pause Button • Calming Items

  7. Class Dojo • Daily PBIS Behavior Goal (earned behavior goal) • Dojo will be used for communication. Please be sure you have access to messages.  • This is also a great way to communicate with teachers!

  8. Parent Academy Night • Watch for important dates/times regarding upcoming Parent Academy Nights. This is the best way to learn how to help your child with 5th grade math and reading skills.

  9. Science • Amanda.Erceg@bcsdk12.net • Students will work in Science Guides and STEM Journals daily. • Best way to study and prepare for class. • Minimum of 7 assignments every 9 weeks. Assignments will be communicated via ClassDojo messenger and the student planner. • 40 minutes of science class each day • Homework- Review notes and prepare for future assignments

Social Studies • Jamita.Roach@bcsdk12.net • Students will use Social Studies Guides and Social Studies Weekly (newspaper). • Best way to study and prepare for class. • Assignments and standards will be communicated via ClassDojo messenger and the student planner. • Homework- Review notes and prepare for future assignments

  11. Mathematics • Julie.Baima@bcsdk12.net and April.Harvey@bcsdk12.net • Math Take Home Kits • Math fact practice on First in Math • No homework on Friday • 2 summative tests every 9 weeks. Tests will be communicated via dojo messenger and the student planner. • Minimum of 7 grades each 9 weeks

  12. Reading/Language Arts • Interactive ELA Guides • Notes on every standard and student work • Reading for 20-30 minutes every night. • Target Lexile- 920 • 5th Grade Band- 830L-1010L • Assessments • Minimum of 5 formative quizzes every 9 weeks • 2 summative tests every 9 weeks

  13. 5th Grade Reminders • Dress code • No athletic clothing, no sleeveless shirts, no sandals, no hoodies, no leggings, length of dress/skirts/shorts, no fringe/rips/holes • School starts at 8:20 am/Students should be picked up by 3:50 pm • Water bottles-water only. • Outside food should only come in a lunchbox

Tybee Island • Front Page- Date/Time: Leave on December 4th (at 7:30 AM) and return on December 6th (regular dismissal).  • Front Page- List of Classes We’ll Be Taking • 2nd Page- Cost and payment schedule: $210 • September 6th- Deposit of $85 and permission form • October 4th- $65  • November 1st- $60 • 2nd Page- Supervision: 5:1  • 2nd Page-Chaperones: Please see top sheet.

Tybee Island • 3rd Page- Dietary Needs: Please note dietary needs on permission form. • 3rd Page- Medication: Medication in original bottle, place in a Ziploc bag with form, give to selected teacher the morning of the trip. • 3rd Page- Bus Snacks: Send a breakfast/afternoon snack for Day 1 and non-perishable snacks for the ride home. • 4th Page- What to bring/What not to bring: Check packing list carefully. May bring cash for snacks/small souvenirs.  • Fundraising- Krispy Kreme Doughnuts
