History of early childhood education in the united states and l.w.b. magnet school • 1995 • Georgia opens the first universal preschool (Sass, 2013) • 1997 • New Haven Public Schools establish three early childhood education programs • Head Start • School Readiness • Magnet Pre-K (New Haven Public Schools, n.d.a,b,c) • 2008 • L.W.B. Magnet School creates early childhood education program • Two Pre-K classrooms • One three year-old class • One four year-old class (personal communication, 2014) • 2011 - Present • L.W.B. Magnet School expands early childhood education program • Four Pre-K Classrooms • Two three year-old classes • Two four year-old classes • Challenges • Lack of provided supplies • Lack of support staff

Magnet School • Attend more often based on flexible scheduling • Sessions recorded and posted for quick and easy access

(World Future Society, n.d.) are read for "...indications of changes likely to have future importance" (World Future Society, n.d.). • Benefit • Provides evidence to help Educators create “…scenarios, forecasts, and issue briefs” (Sobrero, 2004, para.9) • Challenge • Time Consuming for Educators

Magnet School’s Early Learning Program in 2019 • Class sizes increase to include 23 to 25 students • Advanced technology is provided for student and teacher use • Tablets • Wearable Technology • SmartBoard • Class App created • Additional way for parents/guardians and teachers to communicate with one another

Preparation plan for vision forl.w.b. magnet school’s early learning program in 2019 • Meet with School Planning and Management Team • Determine: (i) total cost of advanced technology; (ii) amount school can pay for; and (iii) amount needed from district’s school board • Submit proposal to ask district’s school board for funding for this technology and receive approval • Pre-K teachers visit preschools to observe how they implement advanced technology into their classroom • Pre-K teachers attend professional development to learn how to use advanced technology effectively • Weekly • Two months prior to delivery and installation • Create each Pre-K class' app and plan when to meet with parents/guardians to discuss how to access as well as use it

  12. Call to Action • L.W.B. Magnet School’s Pre-K teachers begin collaboration with administration • Brainstorm how school can pay for advanced technology • Prepare presentation for meeting with School Planning and Management team
