  2. Memories Are Golden… (this poem is about a dog) John only ever wanted Kuran Station Memories are as precious as gold They say memories are golden.
Well, maybe that is true.
I never wanted memories
I only wanted you. A million times I needed you,
A million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you,
You never would have died. In life I loved you dearly,
In death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place
No one could ever fill. If tears could build a stairway,
And heartache make a lane.I'd walk the path to heaven,
And bring you home again. Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again. John was forced out of Kuran Station. He watched it fall apart. He loved Kuran excessively. This person loved his/her dog very much McIvor had an intimate relationship with Kuran Station. Love for his wife and child weren’t as great as his love for Kuran (and could never fill its place in his heart) Very intimate relationship Metaphor: John went through a painful and burdensome journey to own Kuran Station Metaphor: s/he has cried and ached time and time again Metaphor: chain – family & dog’s relationship was as strong as chains Metaphor: Stating the reality of John and Ruth’s relationship

  3. Link to The White Earth… John’s love for Kuran Station is like another’s love for a dog. To John, Kuran station is a living, breathing creature and it needs John to take care of it. “If love alone could have saved you, you would have never died.” Elizabeth wasn’t enthusiastic about taking over Kuran. She sold it and left John to watch it crumble. “In my heart you hold a place no one could ever fill.” Like any other person and their dog, McIvor had an intimate relationship with Kuran Station. The love for his wife and child weren’t as great as his love for Kuran. His wife and child were never enough to fill that empty place in his heart for owning Kuran Station. “If tears could build a stairway, And heartache make a lane.” the metaphor is used to express the owner’s continuous sorrow in losing their dog; like the owner John would be sorrowful if he were to lose Kuran station. John went through a painful and burdensome journey to own Kuran Station. “Our family chain is broken”, the metaphor depicts the imagery that this family and dog had a very intimate relationship, as strong as chains. This metaphor displays the reality of John and Ruth’s relationship from once being so close and strong then to being “broken” as a result of his heart being chained toKuran Station.
