  2. What is IT GAMEDAY? • IT Gameday is an event put on by the College of Information and Communication for all students attending Florida State University. The event takes place on the Third Saturday at the start of the semester. • The purpose of Gameday is to not only entertain students, but to also interest them in events with AITP (Association of Information Professionals) and to interest them into Information Technology

  3. OUR GOALS • There are some clear goals that are desired to be accomplished by putting on a successful Gameday • To entertain students of FSU campus by putting on an event that is both fun and interactive • To introduce students to the Association of Information Professionals and the Information Technology Major.

  4. What we did this semester • On September 11th, our group hosted the game day for the Fall 2010 semester. • This event featured: • The following games: Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Rockband, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Super Street Fighter 4. • We served Pizza and bottled water provided by Ebe Randeree. • Two Raffles were completed, at which members from the group helped provide prizes for the raffles. Including shirts, video games and a Laptop

  5. What went well at this Event? • After the event, The group met to discuss what went well and what didn’t with the event. What was concluded was • Pizza was an excellent choice, it was definitely a game breaker • Game Variety was excellent • Prizes also helped attract people to the building • The event itself was an overall success

  6. What didn’t go so well • Of course, this event did have some minor issues that need fixing, this includes the following • More Time for advertisement • Better Organization of provided equipment • More time for setup and possibly test run • More Gamer Related Prizes • We had things attracting people, but nothing keeping them to stay for the full event, or more then 30 minutes at a time.

  7. Where do we go from here • From this information, the group decided on what was needed to perform a better event next semester: • Better Allocation of Prizes, as well as More Gamer Related Prizes • Allow more time for advertisement and introduce game day to more than just those in the IT Profession • Provide more incentives for people to come (i.e. competition, etc.)

  8. Step 1. Floor plan • The layout of this semester’s Gameday left something to be desired, it was scattered all over the Goldstein Library without any real sense of organization. Instead we came up with an alternative plan.

  9. Floor plan

  10. Step 2. Advertisement • The next step taken is to find solutions to advertisement problems. Through the use of Mass email, social media (i.e. Facebook, twitter), and the community of the campus as a whole, it will be much easier to advertise this event in advance. • Ways to advertise include: • Distributing Flyers via the housing office to all Campus Dorms. • Creating Facebook events at the beginning of the semester and update as the date for the event comes closer. • Working with on Campus Organizations for Cross-Promotion (i.e. FSU SLC Gaming Committee, JACT Organization) • Cross Promotion via Prize Sponsors

  11. Advertisement Cont. • By following these steps for advertisement, the issue of bringing non-IT students to the event greatly diminishes. This helps spread the word via many mediums to those who are interested in Gaming which can be used as a gateway for interest in IT.

  12. Step 3. Social Vs. Tournament • Due to previous experience, Tournaments, or some sort of competition has the ability to draw much more attendees than that of just a gaming social. • By doing a tournament, people choose to attend to show off their skills and some choose to attend to see how good the competition is. • By using this format, all the previous ideas of Gameday can be used, however players will have to work for the “money prizes” so that they just don’t receive their prize and leave.

  13. Step 4. Sponsors • The final step that the team took for planning the next Gameday, was to find sponsors to not only help promote the event, but to also gain some better gamer related prizes for the attendees of Gameday. • The following Organizations were contacted and were interested in cross-promoting with this event • Best Buy (Ellis Hanks, GM) • Gamescape (Ben Bloodworth, Owner) • HP • (Dennis McCurdy, Representative) • (Jason Cooper, District Representative) • Games4Less (George Eyal, Owner) • Gamestop (Eugene Ware, District Manager) • As far as food is concerned, we were unable to find a sponsor willing to donate mass amounts of Pizza

  14. Step 5. Next Group steps • Because a new group will be taking over for us next semester, there are some steps that this group needs to follow for a successful event. • Step 1 • Contact previous Leader and sponsors of Fall Semester Events (Drew Roberts 386-847-2728) • Follow up with sponsors that were contacted this semester • Step 2 • Decide what games are to have displayed • Recommendations include • Super Smash Bros. Brawl Singles tournament • Call of Duty (Modern Warfare 2\Black-Ops) 2v2 System Link • Super Street Fighter 4 • Mario Kart Wii • Step 3 • PROMOTE PROMOTEPROMOTE
